Bartram Bash 2021
Saturday, May 15, 2021 | 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Alpine Groves Park
The St. Johns County Parks and Recreation Department will host the 15th Annual Bartram Bash at Alpine Groves Park on Saturday, May 15, 2021. This family-oriented event is a birthday celebration for American naturalist William Bartram, who explored the St. Johns River extensively in the late 18th century.
The Bartram Bash will include tours of the Harris Bennett House (a historic orange grove homestead) every 15 minutes from 9 to 10:45 a.m. William Bartram re-enactor and historian Mike Adams will deliver a Porch Talk from 11 a.m. to noon. From 1 to 2 p.m., the Americana, folk-rock group the Garfinkel-Sciortino Trio will perform on the front porch. Participants are asked to bring their own blanket or lawn chairs to sit on.
Alpine Groves Park contains the partially restored house and grounds of a late 19th century homestead, along with a citrus grove set among live oaks and magnolia trees. Set on a bluff overlooking the St. Johns River, the 54-acre park is a designated destination on the Great Florida Birding Trail and is known for its amazing butterfly garden.
