St. Johns Cultural Council presents a new exhibit, Fair Winds to Elysium: William Bartram's Travels to East Florida, 1774-1778, beginning on Tuesday, April 16, and continuing through Wednesday, May 29, 2024.

Naturalist William Bartram is recognized for his travels along the St. Johns River in the spring of 1774 when he documented and painted the flora and fauna. His work showcases the animals, plants, and the native people he encountered, as he explored the waterways in this new region.

This exhibition celebrates the 250th anniversary of Bartram's journey by presenting the work of 24 student and professional artists, inspired by Bartram's art. Visitors are invited to view the region's landscapes and natural elements of the past and present.

When: The exhibit's opening reception is on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. The exhibit can be viewed through Wednesday, May 29. Gallery hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

  • Preview breakfast reception will be on Tuesday, April 16, at 8:30 a.m.
  • The artists will be available at an opening reception on Thursday, April 17, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. Hors d'oeuvres will be served.
