Washington Oaks Gardens State Park hosts a Family Beach Walk at Washington Oaks on Monday, August 7, 2017, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.

This will be the last summer beach walk before school begins. The beach at Washington Oaks holds one of the largest outcropping of coquina rock on the Atlantic Coast.

The Family Beach Walk includes a beach scavenger hunt, where the whole family can learn about coquina rock, shells, sea turtles, and more. Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable hiking shoes suitable for rough terrain. No registration is required.

Washington Oaks Gardens State Park is 425 acres of coastal preserve that ranges from rare coquina rock formations along the Atlantic to the tidal marshes of the Matanzas River and the historic formal gardens within the live oaks, magnolias, and coastal scrub of the beachside hammock.

Events like the Family Beach Walk are offered by the Friends of Washington Oaks Gardens State Park, a community-based not-for-profit organization whose mission is to preserve, protect, promote, and provide interpretation at Washington Oaks Gardens and Faver-Dykes State Park.
