First Coast Opera presents The Tender Land, by Aaron Copland, on Saturday and Sunday, February 27 and 28, 2027, at the Ancient City Farmstead. The Saturday performance begins at 7:30 p.m., and the Sunday performance begins at 2:00 p.m. Both productions offer a pre-show talk open to all ticket holders, beginning one hour before each show.

Set in the Midwest during the Great Depression, the opera takes place at a family farm, as the eldest daughter anticipates her high school graduation. Family, struggle, first love, farming, and choices are the primary themes of this coming-of- age story. "The Promise of Living" is the opera's best-known musical number, and many organizations have presented it as a choral anthem.

Each performance includes a pre-show talk that begins one hour before the opera and shares the opera's historical context and information about the creators and music.

Admission: Ticket prices vary by day and seat. Adult tickets range from $45.00 to $90.00, plus taxes and fees. Young Patrons (those under 30) pay $30.00 for select seats. Two teens and children 18 and younger may attend free with an adult ticket. First Coast Opera has more information and tickets here.
