
Lecture: Black Society in Spanish Florida
On Thursday, May 27, 2021, Dr. J. Michael Francis will present a lecture at the Lincolnville Museum and Cultural Heritage Center. Dr. Francis, the Executive Director of La Florida Digital Archives, will present on the topic of "Free and Enslaved: Black Society in Spanish Florida, 1513-1821."
With La Florida, Dr. Francis has amassed and digitized critical documents that allow historians to share the stories of the people of Florida. In this presentation, Dr. Francis will share the stories of how Black slaves and freemen lived when Spain ruled Florida.
The lecture portion of this live, in-person event is available virtually, online. In addition to the lecture, there is an optional reception from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The lecture will take place from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. For more information, go here.
