Coronavirus Update: The State of Florida Parks Department has cancelled all events and programs at state parks. The parks remain open (on a limited schedule, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. only), but all special programs are cancelled.

Anastasia State Park will host a free program, "A Historical Look Into the Old Spanish Quarries," on select Saturdays in January, February, and March 2020. The program is free with regular park admission and takes place from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on each of these dates:

  • Saturday, January 25
  • Saturday, February 22
  • Saturday, March 21

The coquina rock that was used to build the Castillo de San Marcos was extracted at the Old Spanish Quarry, which is now part of Anastasia State Park. This informative tour, led by a park ranger, will describe how the quarry was used and how the use of coquina influenced the architecture and history of St. Augustine.

Guests should check in at the Ranger Station and then meet for the program in the quarry parking area by the front entrance gate.

Admission: Free with park admission: $8.00 per vehicle (limit 8 people), $4.00 per single-occupant vehicle, and $2.00 for pedestrians, bicyclists, and extra passengers.

When: From 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on select Saturdays in January, February, and March 2020: January 25, February 22, and March 21. This event is weather permitting and subject to cancellation.
