The St. Augustine Amphitheatre presents southern rock group, JJ Grey & Mofro, alongside other notable bands on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. Doors open at 4:00 p.m.

JJ Grey and Mofro headline with special guests Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and WAR.

Performing since the 1990s and recognized for songs like “The Sweetest Thing,” “Every Minute,” “Orange Blossoms,” “Lochloosa,” “Beautiful World,” and “Mississippi,” JJ Grey & Mofro began when JJ Grey played local gigs at a Jacksonville bar where bands performed behind chicken wire. He adopted the name “Mofro” to distinguish his music from his day job, a moniker that would later define the band’s identity.

As his following expanded, Grey assembled a full band featuring Eric Brigmond, Marcus Parsley, Craig Barnette, Dennis Marion, Kate Dutton, Pete Winders, and Todd Smallie. Drawing inspiration from legendary artists such as Otis Redding, Big Bad John, and Jim Reeves, the group delivers a powerful blend of rock, funk, blues, and soul to audiences around the world.

JJ Grey and Mofro's discography includes Blackwater, Lochloosa, Country Ghetto, Orange Blossoms, The Choice Cuts, Georgia Warhorse, Brighter Days, This River, Ol' Glory, and Olustee.

Formed in 1989 in Ventura, California, by vocalist/guitarist Scotty Morris and drummer Kurt Sodergren, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy became a driving force behind the jump blues and swing revival of the 1990s. Their lineup features Morris (lead vocals and guitar), Sodergren (drums), Dirk Shumaker (double bass and vocals), Andy Rowley (baritone saxophone and vocals), Glen “The Kid” Marhevka (trumpet), Karl Hunter (saxophones and clarinet), and Joshua Levy (piano and arranger).

Best known for high-energy favorites like “Mr. Pinstripe Suit,” “King of Swing,” and “Why Me?,” the band continues to engage more than 233,000 monthly listeners across Spotify and other streaming platforms. Their music gained national attention through the soundtrack of Swingers, a breakout film for Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau, helping introduce Big Bad Voodoo Daddy to a wide audience.

Since then, the group has sustained an ambitious touring schedule—performing hundreds of shows each year—while selling more than two million albums worldwide. Their discography includes Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, American Deluxe, This Beautiful Life, Save My Soul, and How Big Can You Get? The Music of Cab Calloway, Rattle Them Bones, and their most recent album, Louie, Louie, Louie.

Active since 1969 and renowned for classics like “Low Rider,” “Why Can’t We Be Friends,” “Spill the Wine,” and “The Cisco Kid,” War continues to unite generations of fans with its signature fusion of funk, soul, and rock.

The current lineup, featuring Leroy Jordan, James Zota Baker, Scott Martin, Sal Rodriguez, Stanley Behrens, Marcos Reyes, and Trevor Huxley, keeps the band’s vibrant sound alive on stages around the world. With more than 3 million monthly listeners across Spotify and other streaming platforms, War’s enduring popularity underscores its lasting influence and staying power in the music industry.

War's discography includes Eric Burdon Declares War, The Black Man's Burdon, War, All Day Music, The World Is a Ghetto, Deliver the Word, Why Can't We Be Friends?, Love Is All Around, Platinum Jazz, Galaxy, The Music Band, Outlaw, Life is So Strange, Where There's Smoke, Peace Sign, and their most recent album, Evolutionary.
