Limelight Theatre presents Independence, by Lee Blessing, from April 12 through April 14, 2024. On Friday and Saturday, the play will start at 7:30, and on Sunday it will start at 2:00 p.m. This event will be held in Limelight's Koger-Gamache Black Box Theatre.

Written by Lee Blessing, a highly regarded playwright and professor emeritus at Rutgers University, Independence has often been chosen by small theaters and schools because of the four strong female lead characters. Three sisters return to their family home in Iowa concerned about their mother's mental health. The eldest, Kess, is a university professor and lesbian and wants to cut ties with her family. Jo, who called the gathering, is an incurable romantic who is pregnant, and Sherry, is a high school student counting the days until she can leave home. All four women struggle with their choices, challenges, and the push/pull of family and independence.
