Limelight Theatre Black Box: "Next to Normal"

Limelight Theatre presents Next to Normal from Thursday, August 13, through Sunday, August 30, 2026. The performances begin at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. The Sunday performances are matinees and begin at 2:00 p.m. All performances are held in Limelight's Matuza Black Box Theatre.

About the Play

This powerful and deeply moving rock musical addresses complex family topics and mental illness. Set in the present day, the play focuses on a family of four: mother Diana, her husband, Dan, and their two teenage children, Gabe and Natalie. Diana has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, and her family is struggling. This profound story of human struggle is rated PG-13 and includes sensitive topics, such as mental health and suicide. 

The play, written by Brian Yorkey, with music by Tom Kitt, won the 2010 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. It opened on Broadway in 2009, was nominated for eleven Tony Awards, and won three. 

In 2025, Michael Longhurst directed a full-length production, which premiered on PBS Great Performances.

Admission:  Ticket prices are $53.35, including fees. You can purchase tickets online or at the box office, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m on weekdays.

Where: 11 Old Mission Avenue, St. Augustine, Florida 32084. There is free parking behind the theater—enter from Old Mission Avenue and drive to the back to park in the lot on Bernard Street. Use the main entrance.
