Limelight Theatre: Sound of Music

Limelight Theatre presents The Sound of Music, from Thursday, July 16, 2026, through Sunday, August 9. 2026. On Sundays, the show starts at 2:00 p.m.; all the other shows start at 7:30 p.m.

This Production

The Broadway production opened in 1951 with Mary Martin in the role of Maria and Theodore Bikel as Captain von Trapp. Rogers and Hammerstein wrote the music, and Lindsay & Crouse wrote the book, in this story based on the real-life experiences of the von Trapp family and on the book The Story of the Trapp Family Singers by Maria von Trapp.

Set in 1938 Austria, just before Austria and Germany united, the musical begins with Maria, a young woman on the verge of becoming a nun, taking a job as a governess for the children of the widower von Trapp. As almost everyone knows, this is a love story, a story about resisting fascism, and an outstanding musical with songs that have been loved for more than 70 years.

Admission:

• General admission tickets are $35.00. The Limelight does not offer lower prices for seniors, students, or the military during musical productions.
• Deal tickets for the first Thursday of each production (Preview Night, July 16) and on one Tuesday (Terrific Tuesday, August 4) are $25.00.
• Student "Rush Tickets" are $15.00, when available, 60 minutes before the curtain.
• Box office hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., or purchase tickets online.

When: On Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, from Thursday, July 16, through Sunday, August 9. Sunday shows are matinees and start at 2:00 p.m. The performances on all other days begin at 7:30 p.m. Preview Thursday is on July 16, and Terrific Tuesday is August 4.

Where: 11 Old Mission Avenue, St. Augustine, Florida 32084. There is free parking behind the theater—enter from Old Mission Avenue and drive to the back to park in the lot on Bernard Street. Use the main entrance.
