Fort Matanzas presents a free Living History Day on the topic, "Cultural Influences in the Spanish Colonial Kitchen," on Saturday, October 27, 2018, from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.

Re-enactors dressed as Spanish colonial women will describe the life of a typical woman in St. Augustine during Spanish colonial times and demonstrate how foods from three different cultures (Native American, African, and Spanish) combined to create a unique new cuisine in 1740s colonial Spanish Florida.

The event will include a display of a Spanish soldier's equipment pack, a discussion of the Fort's role as protector of St. Augustine's southern approach, and junior ranger activities.

Admission: FREE

When: From 10:00 a.mn. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 27, 2018. Visitors are advised to call (904) 471-0116 to confirm the event.

Where: Fort Matanzas is located on Rattlesnake Island and visitors must take a ferry ride to get to it. The Fort Matanzas Visitor Center and gift shop are located at 8635 A1A, about 15 miles south of St. Augustine.
