Meet the Curators of the Historic Photography Exhibit
(904) 824-2872On Thursday, June 13, 2024, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., the Oldest House Museum Complex will host a reception and discussion about their exhibit: A Pictorial History of the Black Community in St. Augustine & St. Johns County.
This photography exhibit includes work from contemporary photographer, Lenny Foster, and 20th-century photographers, Richard Twine and John Jackson. Lenny Foster engages the present-day Lincolnville sites and its Black community members.
Lenny Foster was inspired by Richard Twine, who captured Lincolnville in the 1920s, and John Jackson who photographed Lincolnville and West Augustine from the 1960s through the 1980s. John Jackson was a teacher in St. Augustine and a prominent member of the Catholic Church. His photographs documented the daily lives of his community: their celebrations, jobs, homes, and schools.
The photographs of Richard Twine, John Jackson, and Lenny Foster tend to honor regular men and women as and their lives, work, and community events.
