Music at the Museum
Thursday and Friday, May 20–21, 2021 | 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Lightner Museum
Celebrating the bright and bold colors of American Impressionism, the Lightner Museum will host a Spring Extravaganza May 20–21, 2021.
The St. Augustine Orchestra will perform during the event as patrons explore the museum, enjoy two American Impressionist Exhibitions and sip drinks outside on the museum’s south terrace.
The American Impressionism exhibit “Treasures from the Daywood Collection” will open April 8, 2021, and will run through July 5, 2021 at the Lightner Museum.
Featuring works of the late 19th and early 20th century, the exhibit showcases a transitional time in American art when painters abandoned the rigors of academic styles and subjects.
Inspired by their European counterparts, they turned to intimate scenes of the cultivated countryside and figure studies of friends and neighbors that reflected the more modern influences of Impressionism and Post Impressionism.
The exhibit features art by Robert Henri, George Inness, George Luks, Gari Melchers, John Sloan, John Twachtman and J. Alden Weir.
The second American Impressionism exhibit "St. Augustine in a New Light: American Impressionism from the Collection of the Lightner Museum" will also open April 8, 2021.
Featuring works from St. Augustine’s time as a winter haven for Impressionst painters from northern colonies in the late 19th century, the exhibit shows St. Augustine in shimmering light, warm colors and expressive brushwork.
More than 20 paintings will be display and cover work from the 1880s through the 1940s. Scenes include St. Augustine’s quaint streets, its bustling harbors and its magnificent coastline.
Covid-19 safety precautions will include social distancing and using designated hand sanitizing stations throughout the building. Masks must be worn at all times.
