Documentary Screening - "13th"

The St. Augustine Film Society will screen the Oscar-nominated documentary "13th," which explores race in the U.S. criminal justice system.

On Tuesday, February 21, 2017, the St. Augustine Film Society will present a screening of "13th," an Oscar-nominated documentary that delves into the 13th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which abolished slavery (except as punishment for a crime).

This documentary looks to history, and focuses on the Constitutional Amendment intended to abolish slavery, to inform analysis about race in the modern United States criminal justice system. The film features interviews with a variety of politicians, academics, and active figures in the Civil Rights Movement.

A panel discussion will follow the screening of the documentary.
