David Fussell of the Tale Tellers of St. Augustine brings a true Florida character to the stage on Saturday, February 21, 2026, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Unitarian-Universal Fellowship on Anastasia Island.
When author Marjorie Kinnan Rawlins was sued by her neighbor in 1925, one of her attorneys was special counsel Sigsbee L. Scruggs. Scruggs has been described as a "Florida legend" and "larger than life," and is still remembered for this one trial. David Fussell, a fifth-generation Florida Cracker, is known for his poignant and humorous tales about Florida and the people who were born and raised here. He enjoys portraying this sharp attorney who was known for his folksy wit.
The Tale Tellers of St. Augustine was formed in 1993 by storytelling enthusiasts. Their mission is to pass on and enhance the art of storytelling. With more than 30 members, this group produces several showcases a year, seeking to revive storytelling as an art form and social means of communication.
