Women Who Broke the Rules
"Scandalous Women: Women Who Broke the Rules" shares the lesser-told tales about women who changed history in North Florida. Florida women saved towns, changed attitudes, and promoted freedom. This program features Robin Mahonen, a performer, musician, and storyteller. Tale Tellers Chris Kastle and David Fussell join Mahonen.
Mahonen is the daughter of a woman who broke the rules. Trumpet player Maxine Fields Knepper toured the country playing with the "International Sweethearts of Rhythm" in the 1940s. Years later, Mahonen also toured the country performing with her husband, "Uncle Eddie," for nearly 20 years, and now Mahonen often performs solo as a musician and storyteller.
Chris Kastle, an award-winning poet, songwriter, and storyteller, frequently offers tales of the sea and adventure. David Fussell focuses on his personal stories and his vast knowledge of Florida's history and the people who made it.
