Treasure Chest Museum

Learn to make rope, dip a candle, and create vegetable dyes for yarn at the Treasure Chest Museum. These are a few of the experiences available to children and adults eager to learn more about the Minorcan people who worked to build a life in St. Augustine. 

When you step through the door at 76 Spanish Street, you enter the 1700s in and learn how the Minorcans found a home in the New World. See how they made candles and yarn. Learn how they created rope used to craft fishing nets. Experience the games the children played.

The museum offers tours and instruction to families, private groups, students on field trips, and organizations on team building excursions. An hour of active learning includes time making a candle and a section of rope—you can take the candle home as a souvenir and a reminder of a job well done. 

In addition, while at the Treasure Chest Museum, you can learn fishing skills, weaving, and how to play colonial games, such as hoop rolling and marbles. There is even an archaeology hunt and the opportunity to seek dinosaur bones. 

During your visit, you'll learn more about St. Augustine's history and the people who created our town.
