On Monday, December 7, 2026, from 8:00 to 10:00 p.m., the St. Johns Cultural Council and the St. Augustine Amphitheatre present an evening with singers and songwriters David Nail and Will Hoge at the St. Augustine Waterworks. The evening offers two outstanding musicians and songwriters sharing their songs.

David Nail

The son of a high school band director, David Nail writes songs that tell his truth, reassuring his audience that they aren't alone in many of their thoughts. When he first started as a songwriter, he said that he wrote songs about things he'd never experienced. As he matured and found the right mentor, he learned it was OK to experiment and not pull his punches. Working with MCA in Nashville, Nail produced four albums between his first in 2009 and his fourth in 2016, resulting in nine singles on the US Country and US Country Airplay charts, all but one in the top 50.  "Whatever She's Got" reached #2.

After 2016, Nail forged his own path, first with two friends in the independent project, Davis Nail & the Ravens, and then spent several months writing songs, including "Oh, Mother," described as a song "with the kind of honesty that takes your breath away."

In addition to his songwriting success, critics praise Nail for his vocal skills and ability to bring a song to life.

Will Hoge

Will Hoge's love and understanding of music began when he was young. His musician father and uncles influenced his sound, as did his father's record collection. Even so Hoge attended college to study history and become a teacher and basketball coach. After writing some rock and roll songs, he left college to pursue music. When his first band, Spoonful, disbanded, Hoge toured in the South, released his first CD, Live at the Exit/In in 2001, and later signed a deal with Atlantic Records. Since then, he's released 14 albums, with Sween Misery released in 2025.

Hoge has performed at the Grand Ole Opry three times, performed with Vince Gill, and received several award nominations for "Even if it Breaks Your Heart," recorded by the Eli Young Band. That song reached #1 on the country charts. He seems to be constantly touring. He much prefers what he calls the "folk singer solo set," sitting on stage with his acoustic guitar, and says that most of his newer songs sound fine that way. However, he often tours with a small group of accompanying musicians.

Will Hoge is an enduring musician, whether performing with a full band or as a solo act.

The Waterworks

Built in 1898, the St. Augustine Waterworks is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The city moved this waterworks facility to a new location after significant population growth. For a time, the building served as a community center and theater, and was later left unused. Now fully renovated again, this facility is accessible, has free parking, and yet retains its historic architectural properties and charm.
