Limelight: Cotton Patch Gospel

The Limelight Theatre presents the musical, "Cotton Patch Gospel," on select dates from December 2 to 31, 2016. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays through Saturdays and at 2:00 p.m. on Sundays throughout the show's run.

"Cotton Patch Gospel," also called "The Greatest Story Ever Retold," is set in rural Georgia, with songs by Harry Chapin. The musical retells the story of the political struggles surrounding the death of Jesus Christ, but set in modern times. The play focuses on a character named "Herod," the mayor of Atlanta, who is forced to deal with an infamous lynching by local thugs.

The cast: Blake Osner as Matthew, Ben LaBonne as Jesus, Michael Cejvanovic as Jud, Matt Kelley as John the Baptizer, Josh Morris as Andy. Jim Warren as Jim, Fadil Cejvanovic as Tom, and Brian Johnson as Mr. Tedam and Rev. Boyd. Most of the cast play numerous roles throughout the play. Musicians include Joseph Henderson on violin, Brooks Clarke on banjo and guitar, Kimberly Zielinski on mandolin, and Sean Tillis on bass. Shelli Long is the director and musical director, with Amanda Arany as production manager.

Admission: Regular admission tickets are $26. Tickets for Preview Night (December 1) and the Terrific Tuesday show (December 6) are $15.

When: The show runs from December 2 - 31,  2016, at 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays and at 2:00 p.m. on Sundays. Preview Night is December 1 at 7:30 p.m. The Terrific Tuesday showing is at 7:30 p.m. on December 6, 2016.

Where: The Limelight Theatre is located at 11 Old Mission Ave. in the Uptown San Marco district. Free parking is available on the street and in the parking lot behind the theater.
