On the first Saturday of each month, Fort Matanzas presents cannon or musket firings, with period re-enactors demonstrating how Spanish soldiers in the colonial days defended Fort Matanzas from attackers.

These living history demonstrations take place from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on the first Saturday of the month, weather and staff permitting.

Fort Matanzas defended the southern approach to St. Augustine. This fortress was integral to the safety of the fledgling port town, St. Augustine.

Admission: FREE

Where? Fort Matanzas is located on Rattlesnake Island and visitors must take a ferry ride to get to it. The Fort Matanzas Visitor Center and gift shop are located at 8635 A1A, about 15 miles south of St. Augustine. Free boarding passes for the ferry are available right there at the Fort Matanzas Visitor Center.

When? The first Saturday of the month (weather and staff permitting) from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Visitors are advised to call (904) 471-0116 to confirm.
