When All the Saints Are Gathered: An Enhance Reading
On October 11 and 12, 2025, the Limelight Theatre will premiere (in an enhanced reading) the play When All the Saints Are Gathered, by playwright Nikki Toombs. The performance on Saturday, October 11, begins at 7:00 p.m. and is a fundraiser for the Foundation of the Museum of Black History. The matinee performance on Sunday, October 12, starts at 1:00 p.m.
The Play
Set in St. Augustine, When All the Saints Are Gathered focuses on five students who joined Dr. Robert B. Hayling in his local efforts fighting for civil rights. Dr. Hayling and others instructed the young people as they prepared for sit-ins, marches, and wade-ins, and the anticipated violent pushback. During this time, the area lost its NAACP charter, the Klan attacked Dr. Hayling's home, and attempted to assassinate him. Toombs has written a play that encompasses their fears and sacrifices, and the choices these young people had to make for their safety and peace.
Nikki Toombs, from Alabama, is the author of eight plays, has spent time as an educator and curriculum specialist.
