Before the Big Show
Make Time for the Must-Sees
Before the fireworks, explore centuries-old structures, hands-on museums, and attractions that make this city much more than a cool place to watch Bayfront bangs.
Make it a Fourth to remember with beach days and fireworks over the Matanzas.
There’s something different about the Fourth here. Maybe it’s the sound of cannon fire from a 17th-century fort, or the way fireworks reflect off the Matanzas at night. Whatever it is, St. Augustine brings history and celebration together like nowhere else.
Celebrating Independence Day in the nation's oldest city is a memory you'll carry with you the rest of your life. Make it a Fourth to remember and plan your visit today.
While the festivities are enjoyable throughout Historic Downtown, the main fireworks show takes place over the Matanzas River, just north of the Bridge of Lions. Prime viewing spots include the seawall near the Castillo de San Marcos, the Vilano Beach bridge, and along Avenida Menendez.
Fireworks typically begin at 9:30 p.m. on July 4th and last about 20 to 30 minutes. A live concert starts around 6:00 p.m. at the Plaza de la Constitución.
Parking downtown can be limited. The Historic Downtown Parking Facility is the largest nearby option. For less stress, consider using a Park & Ride shuttle, ride share, or arriving early to secure a spot.

Yes, both the fireworks show and the concert in the Plaza are free and open to the public. Some surrounding events and viewing parties may have separate fees.
Chairs and small coolers are allowed in public viewing areas, but alcohol, fireworks, and glass containers are prohibited. Be courteous to those around you and follow posted rules.
While pets are allowed in most public outdoor spaces, the fireworks can be loud and crowded. Consider your pet’s comfort and safety before bringing them downtown. Find pet-friendly lodging.
The fireworks show is weather-dependent. In the event of severe weather, updates will be posted on city websites and social media channels. Light rain typically does not cancel the event.

Know Before You Go
Head to the Plaza de la Constitución around 6:00 p.m. to catch a free performance by the All-Star Orchestra. Expect patriotic tunes and crowd favorites.
The fireworks launch over the water near the fort at 9:30 p.m. The best spots? The stretch of seawall from the Bridge of Lions to the Castillo, the lawn near the fort, from your downtown hotel balcony, or anywhere with a clear view of the bay.
Avoid road closures and downtown gridlock by using free satellite parking and shuttle services.
Bring chairs, blankets, and your favorite people — but leave coolers, alcohol, glass containers, and fireworks at home. Large crowds and loud booms mean it’s best to leave pets behind, too.
Early evening is your best bet for snagging a good spot. Come even earlier to walk around, grab food, or catch the early action with live music as the city gears up for the finale.
