A Look Into the Historical Old Spanish Quarry

Participants can learn all about the coquina that was quarried here and how it influenced the architecture and history of St. Augustine.

  • Anastasia State Park will host a special free program, "A Look Into the Historical Old Spanish Quarry," on two dates in April: Wednesday, April 11, and Saturday, April 21,  2018. The program is free with regular park admission and takes place from 10:0 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

    The coquina that was used to build the Castillo de San Marcos was extracted at the Old Spanish Quarry, which is now part of Anastasia State Park. This informative tour, led by a park ranger, will describe how the quarry was used and how the use of coquina influenced the architecture and history of St. Augustine.

    Guests should check in at the Ranger Station and then meet for the program in the quarry parking area by the front entrance gate.

    Admission: Free with park admission: $8.00 per vehicle (limit 8 people), $4.00 per single-occupant vehicle, and $2.00 for pedestrians, bicyclists, and extra passengers.

    When: From 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 11, and again on Saturday, April 21, 2018. This event is weather permitting and subject to cancellation.
