Lunch and Learn with Dr. Edda L. Fields Black

To celebrate Juneteenth, the Lincolnville Museum and Cultural Heritage Center hosts four events in June.

June 13, Dr. Edda L. Fields-Black, Author and Educator

Enjoy a Lunch and Learn event with Dr. Fields-Black, and discuss her Pulitzer prize-winning book, COMBEE: Harriet Tubman, the Combahee River Raid and Black Freedom During the Civil War. This book focuses on Tubman's less-widely known leadership of a crew of spies, boat pilots, and scouts. They successfully navigated two boats up the Combahee River to Beaufort, South Carolina. They torched eight rice plantations and freed 730 people. Dr. Fields-Black undertook extensive research of archival materials to provide information about the generations of enslaved families who were forced to work in the rice fields.
