Al Di Meola Opus & More

Jazz fusion and Latin jazz guitarist and composer Al Di Meola returns to Ponte Vedra in support of his latest release, "Opus."

Please Note: This event is from 2018

Jazz fusion and Latin jazz virtuoso Al Di Meola returns to the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall for a concert on Tuesday, February 12, 2019. He is touring in support of his latest album, Opus.

Di Meola began his career in 1974 when he joined the band Return to Forever. He became a solo artist in 1976, and has since produced six albums with Columbia Records. Recognized as a true guitar hero, Di Meola is also a prolific composer and has produced over 20 albums as a leader over his long career.

His musical partnerships have included the Tour de Force group with Jan Hammer, Anthony Jackson, Steve Gadd and Mingo Lewis; Trio with fellow guitar virtuosos John McLaughlin and Paco de Lucia; the Rite of Strings trio with Stanley Clarke and Jean-Luc Ponty; and the '70s fusion group Return to Forever with Chick Corea, Stanley Clarke and Lenny White.

In March of 2018, Al Di Meola released Opus, the first of six projects with German record label Ear Music. Di Meola comments: "With Opus I wanted to further my compositional skills as I think that the evolution of this part of my persona has labelled me more composer/guitarist than guitarist/composer. For the first time in my life, I have written music being happy, I'm in a wonderful relationship with my wife and I have a baby girl and a beautiful family that inspires me every day. I believe it shows in the music."
