Castillo by Candlelight: Sharks in the Moat

Coronavirus Update: The Castillo de San Marcos has suspended operations in response to the COVID-19 virus outbreak. This includes access to the Castillo and all special events scheduled for the next few weeks. A reopening date has not been determined at this time.

The National Park Service offers a special Castillo by Candlelight Tour, "Sharks in the Moat," on Saturday, March 21, 2020.

This evening program gives guests a chance to learn about the most popular stories, myths, and legends in the long history of the Castillo de San Marcos.

Tours last approximately 45 minutes and depart at 7:30, 7:45, 8:00, and 8:15 p.m.

About the Castillo: The Castillo de San Marcos is the oldest masonry fort in the continental United States. It is a large Spanish stone fortress built to protect and defend Spain's claims in the New World. It's a National Monument and, at over 315 years old, it's the oldest structure in the entire city. Visitors will find plenty to explore, from the numerous rooms that once housed soldiers and prisoners of every era to the large interior courtyard and gun deck which offers a great view of the city.

Admission: Space is limited (25 people to a tour), and tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Tickets are $15.00 for adults, $5.00 for children ages 5 to 15, and free for children under 5. Tickets may be purchased in advance, starting one week prior to the event, at the Castillo de San Marcos ticket booth or by phone at (904) 829-6506 ext. 239.
