The Romanza Festivale of Music and the Arts presents a free concert by Duo-B, the acclaimed violin and cello ensemble of Hirono and Philip Borter, on Sunday, May 12, 2019, at Memorial Presbyterian Church.

Duo-B is unique in the classical music world and earning praise for its passionate commitment to creative style and original programming. Japanese violinist Hirono Sugimoto and American cellist Philip Borter met in Germany at the Hochschule fur Musik-Freiburg in 2009. They soon discovered that their shared love of travel and of finding imaginative styles of music-making was a bond that led them down new professional and personal paths. The couple formed Duo-B while still graduate students as the Eastman School of Music.

Duo-B has won a number of awards and has performed on three continents, including concerts at the Kodak Hall at the Eastman Theater, the Kennedy Center in Washington D. C., the University der Kunst in Berlin, and Minatomirai Hall in Yokohama. While their musical lives are dedicated to the string duo, Philip and Hirono also cherish being full-time parents and sharing as many musical adventures as possible with their three young sons: Jude, Joseph, and Matthew.

Admission: Free.

When: Sunday, May 12, 2019, from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m.
