The four guitarists from Los Angeles have unique musical backgrounds, allowing them to arrange and perform a wide array of music, including bluegrass and Bach. In addition to their interpretation of traditional classical works, their performances can include music from Latin America, Africa, Ireland, the Far East, and North America. From this continent, the works range from old folk and bluegrass tunes to contemporary music.

The quartet was formed in 1980 by John Dearman, Bill Kanengiser, and two others. Matt Greif joined the quartet in 2006, and Douglas Lora joined in 2023.
