First Coast Opera proudly presents a fully-staged production of Mozart's classic comic opera, The Marriage of Figaro, with two performances on Saturday, January 5 (at 7:30 p.m.) and Sunday, January 6 (at 2:00 p.m.) at Lewis Auditorium.
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was commissioned by the director of the Burgtheater, Count Orsini-Rosenberg, to compose an opera buffa (comic opera), and he settled on The Marriage of Figaro, which had been presented in Vienna in 1783 to great acclaim.
Based on the original play, The Barber of Seville, by Beaumarchais, the storyline follows a single "day of madness" in the palace of Count Almaviva near Seville. Several delightful and delightfully naughty characters posture and sing their way through a jumble of confused identities and misguided marriages. Mozart's brilliant music, from the well-known overture to the soaring arias, make this one of the best-loved operas in musical history.
Admission: Tickets are $40.00 for adults and $10.00 for students with ID. Visit here to purchase tickets.
When: The two performances will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 5, and at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 6, 2019.
Where: Lewis Auditorium is located at 14 Granada St. in St. Augustine, FL 32084.
