The National Park Service is offering a Marsh Walk and Cannon Firing event throughout the day of Saturday, January 18, 2020. The free guided walk will depart every hour on the hour from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. from the Fort Matanzas Visitor Center.

A park ranger will lead the free walks along the Matanzas River. After learning about the many plants and animals of the area, visitors can watch the Fort Matanzas cannons fire from across the inlet.

Admission: FREE.

When: There will be six walks throughout the day of Saturday, January 18, 2020: at 10:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., 12:00 noon, 1:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m., and 3:00 p.m.

Where: Fort Matanzas is located on Rattlesnake Island and visitors must take a ferry ride to get to it. Though the ferry is not currently operational (see note below), the Fort Matanzas Visitor Center and gift shop is open and is located at 8635 A1A, about 15 miles south of St. Augustine.

Please note: Ferry services from the Visitor Center to Fort Matanzas remain suspended due to damage from recent hurricanes. In the meantime, visitors are welcome to walk the park trails and view the Fort across the waterway.
