The Giant Menorah Lighting ceremony is a highlight of celebration of Chanukah in St. Johns County.

Please Note: This event is from 2018

Chabad of St. Johns presents its annual lighting of a nine-foot-tall menorah to mark the celebration of Chanukah on Thursday, December 6, 2018, at World Golf Village.

The event takes place at 6:30 p.m. and features plenty of delicious potato latkes and jelly doughnuts to nosh on, as well as Chanukah music and the lighting of the nine-foot-tall menorah in front of the Trophy Tower at the World Golf Hall of Fame.

The Chanukah story celebrates the rededication of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem. Lighting the eight-branch candelabra known as the menorah is a central part of the eight-day Chanukah festivities. It represents the "illumination of the house without," meaning that anyone who passes the house can be reminded of the miracle of the holiday.

Since the 1970s, the worldwide Chabad Hasidic movement has initiated public menorah lightings in open public places in many countries. Chabad of St. Johns County takes part in that global effort by sponsoring this ceremony.

Admission is free.

When: Thursday, December 6, 2018, at 6:30 p.m.
