(904) 823-4500The Guana Tolomato Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve celebrates National Estuaries Day on Saturday, September 26, 2015, with an exploration of the rich estuarine habitat in Guana Lake.
Participants will learn how to use seine nets to collect various fish and crab species, which they will learn more about from their guide. The event organizers provide all necessary gear for the adventure, including waders and boots.
National Estuaries Week is September 19 through 26, 2015. Estuaries are the nurseries for a wide range of marine life and act as filters to improve overall water quality, making them a vital part of the coastal ecosystem. Florida's estuaries provide more than 95 percent of the state's recreational and commercial industry fish, crustaceans, and shellfish.
