The Head and the Heart
Please Note: This event is from 2014.
The Head and the Heart is an indie, folk-rock band from Seattle who’s quickly making a name for themselves with their unique sound. The group Lost in the Trees will open the show at the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall.
The Head and the Heart group started out in Seattle playing individually at various open mic nights when the core songwriters, Josiah Johnson and Jonathan Russell joined forces. They quickly found the talented keyboardist Kenny Hensley and the prolific violinist and vocalist, Charity Rose Thielen. Drummer, Tyler Williams joined the group after hearing the demo of “Down in the Valley,” and their band was rounded out when the bartender, Chris Zasche of the bar hosting the open mic nights joined.
The group was quickly signed to Sub Pop records after their self-titled, self-burned debut album sold out at shows and many local record stores in the Seattle area. Their 2011 debut album held the singles, “Lost in My Mind”, and “Down in the Valley.” Both were hits for the band on the indie-folk scene. The band toured extensively through 2010 and 2011 in both the United States and Europe, opening for Vampire Weekend, The Walkmen, Dr. Dog, Dave Matthews, The Low Anthem, Iron & Wine, Death Cab For Cutie, and others as well as headlining their own shows.
The song "Lost in My Mind" was played in the series Hart of Dixie in the episode Hairdos & Holidays. It was also the backing track for the theatrical trailer of The Silver Linings Playbook. Their latest album, Let’s Be Still was released on Sub Pop records as well in 2013 and features influences from all members of the band. Each member was a part of the production process of the new record and therefore its sound is much more eclectic!
Lost in the Trees is an American orchestral folk pop band from Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The current line-up consists of Ari Picker (writer/vocals), Emma Nadeau (french horn/vocals), Drew Anagnost (cello), Jenavieve Varga (violin), and Mark Daumen (tuba). Lead singer Ari Picker cites diverse influences like Beethoven, Radiohead, Vivaldi, Neutral Milk Hotel, Saint-Saëns, and OutKast, among others. Rolling Stone said of their latest album, A Church That Fits Our Needs, "Ari Picker tries to make sense of his mother's suicide against a backdrop of rich orchestration, piled generously atop a base of delicate acoustic folk like heaping spoonfuls of vanilla frosting."
