In June of 1964, 16 rabbis were arrested in St. Augustine for protesting in favor of civil rights. On May 4, 2024, from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m., the Lincolnville Museum and Cultural Center will honor their courage and commitment.

The world became aware of the arrest due to the letter the rabbis wrote while incarcerated: "Why We Went: A Joint Letter from the Rabbis Arrested in St. Augustine." The video was produced when six of those rabbis returned to St. Augustine for the 50th anniversary of their arrest. In addition to the video, Rob Tobias will provide a musical performance for the audience.

This event is one of many to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Admission: $5.00 per person. Tickets can be purchased here.

When: Saturday, May 5, 2024, from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m.

Where: At the meeting hall on the second floor of the Lincolnville Museum and Cultural Heritage Center, 102 Martin Luther King Avenue, St. Augustine, Florida 32084

The entrance to the second-floor hall is from Pomar Street and is accessible. There is free parking at that entrance, and paid parking in a lot on Martin Luther King Avenue.
