International concert organist, recording artist, and choral conductor Gail Archer will perform in a free concert at the Cathedral Basilica on Sunday, May 21, 2017, at 2:30 p.m.

Gail Archer offers an annual recital series which is designed to bring attention to composer anniversaries or musical themes. Some of her recent recitals include "Max Reger: The Last Romantic," "The Muse's Voice," "An American Idyll," and " Liszt, Bach, Mendelssohn and Messiaen."

Ms. Archer was the first American woman to play the complete works of Olivier Messiaen for the centennial of the composer's birth in 2008. Her recordings include A Russian Journey, The Muse's Voice, Franz Liszt: A Hungarian Rhapsody, and Bach: The Transcendent Genius. She also tours internationally, most recently to Denmark, Germany, Italy, the Czech Republic, the Ukraine and Russia.

The founder of Musforum, which is an international network for women organists to promote and affirm their work, Ms. Archer is currently college organist at Vassar College and director of the music program at Barnard College, where she conducts the Barnard-Columbia Chorus. She also serves as director of the young organ artist recitals at historic Central Synagogue in New York City.
