Ricky Nelson Remembered
Friday, November 14, 2014, 8 p.m.
Please Note: This event is from 2014.
“Ricky Nelson Remembered” is a retrospective performance and memorial to Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Ricky Nelson’s life and music. Matthew and Gunnar Nelson, Ricky’s twin sons, produce and star in the show, which features videos and clips from never-before-seen interviews from artists who were influenced by Nelson, including Paul McCartney and Chris Isaak.
The performance takes place at the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall on Friday, November 14, 2014, at 8 p.m. (gates open at 7 p.m.).
The original “teen idol,” Ricky Nelson was a rock star before rock was fully established as an American musical style. In the same week, Ricky boasted a No. 1 song, a No.1 TV show, and a No.1 movie – the only artist ever to accomplish that triple play. “Ricky Nelson Remembered” features hit songs like “Hello Mary Lou,” “Poor Little Fool,” “Travelin’ Man,” “I’m Walkin’,” “I Gotta Feeling,” “Teenage Idol,” “Garden Party” and many more.
Ricky Nelson died in a plane crash in 1986, while en route to perform a New Year’s Eve concert. His career achievements are legendary, with 53 hit singles on the Billboard Hot 100 and 19 other top-tem hits. He won a Golden Globe award for his performance in Rio Bravo, with John Wayne, and he is in the Rockabilly Hall of Fame. Ricky’s twin sons, Matthew and Gunnar, continue the musical tradition started by their grandparents, Ozzie and Harriet, making the Nelsons the only family in history with three successive generations of No. 1 hit makers.
