The Ponte Vedra Concert Hall presents "New Queen of the Blues" Shemekia Copeland in concert on Saturday, November 10, 2018.

Her phenomenal voice ranges effortlessly from sweet and sultry to assertive and roaring, and her style is equally at home with R&B, roots and soul, gospel, and country ballads. According to USA Today, "Shemekia captures the timelessness of the blues while spinning it forward with remarkable maturity."

Born in Harlem, New York, Shemekia Copeland became a singer early in her life, as her bluesman father recognized her talent and encouraged her to sing both at home and at Harlem's famed Cotton Club when she was eight. Her debut album, Turn the Heat Up, was recorded when she was only 18. That album has been followed by the Grammy-nominated Wicked in 2000, Talking To Strangers in 2002, and The Soul Truth in 2005. Copeland was awarded the 2010 Blues Artist Of the Year award. Her most recent release was 2012's Grammy-nominated 33 ⅓.

Copeland is a tireless performer who has appeared on national television, NPR, and films and festivals. She has sung with Eric Clapton, Bonnie Raitt, B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Mick Jagger, Carlos Santana, and many others. At the 2011 Chicago Blues Festival, the City of Chicago and the State of Illinois officially declared Copeland to be "The New Queen of the Blues."
