The St. Augustine Amphitheatre will present electro-funk jam band Sound Tribe Sector 9 (STS9) with special guests Jade Cicada and Sunsquabi in a live concert on Saturday, October 7, 2017.

STS9 was founded in Georgia as Sound Tribe Sector 9 in the late 1990s. They became known for their dub-influenced psychedelic music that relied heavily on group improvisation. Their debut album, Interplanetary Escape Vehicle, was released in 1988. As the band evolved and with the addition of Jeffree Lerner on percussion, Hunter Brown on guitar, David Phipps on keyboards, Zach Velmer on drums, and David Murphy on bass, STS9  refined its fully original sound and became popular as a jam band in the early 2000s.

Tireless tourers, STS9 has also released several albums, including Live in 1999, Offered Schematics Suggesting Peace in 2000, and The Universe Inside in 2016. This most recent album debuted in the Top 5 of both the Billboard Dance/Electronic and Heatseekers charts, as well as the Top 40 on the independent chart.

Jade Cicada's music reflects the meanings of his name. His first name is the gemstone that the ancient Chinese considered to be crystallized moonlight that has fallen to earth. His last name calls to mind the chorus of song of the cicadas, among the loudest in nature, and the cycle of rebirth, metamorphosis, and illumination they symbolize.

SunSquabi had a break out year in 2016, when they unveiled their debut EP entitled "Odyssey," which featured artists GRIZ and Dominic Lalli of Big Gigantic. They continue to explore what a "Live-Electronic" band should be as they gain national attention for their original sound.
