The Apex Theatre Studio opens their fourth annual summer theater season with three performances of the Broadway musical "The Secret Garden" at the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall. There will be a show on Friday, June 23, at 8:00 p.m., and two shows (at 2:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.) on Saturday, June 24, 2017.
The Broadway musical hit "The Secret Garden" is based on the classic children's novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett. Set in the early years of the 20th century, this is the story of a young English girl born and raised in India under British rule who is orphaned at 10 years old and sent back to live with distant relatives in the north of England. Her struggles to overcome loneliness and to care for an invalid cousin are mirrored in her work to bring life back to a neglected garden.
The Broadway score is "rich and haunting," according to Ian Mairs, managing director of Apex Theatre Studio, offering advanced level musical theater students an opportunity to really show their talent. Students come from six area high schools, and there are also featured performers from Florida State University and the University of Florida. David Loudermilk directs the production.
Apex Theatre is a non-profit theater education center where students ages 14-21 hone their crafts as artists. For more information about Apex Theatre, please visit here. For more information about this event, click here.
