Vilano Beach is hosting its first annual Blessing of the Boards event on Saturday, May 27, 2017. The event is designed to welcome in the summer and will feature a parade of recreational boards from surfboards and boogie boards to paddle boards and skateboards.
The procession will begin at the Beach Pavilion on the Atlantic side of Vilano Beach at 9:00 a.m., and will head west towards the Pier on the south side of the island. At the Pier, Pastor Sam Schlegel will perform the "blessing of the boards." The sidewalk parade will then return to the Beach Pavilion along the north end of Vilano Town Center. Everyone is invited to attend this celebration of the coming of summer.
Raffle tickets will be available and food and beverage vendors will be on hand. After the parade, announcements will be made about the upcoming ProAm Skimboard Tournament that takes place annually in August at Vilano Beach.
Admission: Free for spectators. It costs $5 to enter a board in the parade.
