Romanza Presents ...

For two weekends in May, Romanza Festivale and A Classic Theatre present The Foreigner by Larry Shue, on Fridays through Sundays, from Friday, May 2 through Sunday, May 11, 2025. The Friday performances are at 7:30 p.m., Saturday twilight matinee performances begin at 4:00 p.m., and on Sundays, the show starts at 2:00 p.m.

Written by the late actor and playwright, Larry Shue, The Foreigner is one of his two most-produced plays. Shue acted in the play as the character, Charlie, and later as the character, Froggy. The play takes place in a remote fishing camp in Georgia with several unusual guests and residents. In addition to two Englishmen, Froggy and Charlie, there is a heiress, her brother, her fiancé, the camp's owner, and an unscrupulous local businessman.

Charlie is depressed about his wife's health and doesn't feel like talking to strangers, so Froggy convinces everyone that his pal is a foreigner who does not understand English. Once the guests and locals get comfortable around Charlie, they reveal their secrets, schemes, and problems in his presence.

Described as a laugh-out-loud comedy of misunderstandings, The Foreigner has long been a favorite of college and local theatre groups. It opened off-Broadway in New York in November 1984 and later won two Obie Awards and the Outer Critics Circle Award for Best New American Play and Best Off-Broadway Production.

Admission: Tickets are $25.00 for general admission. Tickets can be purchased online, here.
