EMMA Concert Association presents their annual Holiday Traditions concert with First Coast Opera on Wednesday, December 13, 2017, at Lewis Auditorium. This concert will be a performance by First Coast Opera of "Amahl and the Night Visitors."

This opera in one act by Gian Carlo Menotti was originally commissioned by NBC and performed by the NBC Opera Theatre on December 21, 1951. It has become a holiday favorite ever since.

The story of Amahl and the Night Visitors is tied in with the legend of the Three Magi at the birth of Christ. Amahl is a disabled child who can walk only with a crutch. He and his mother live near Bethlehem. When the Three Kings arrive at their door and explain that they are on a journey to give gifts to a "wondrous Child," they offer them their hospitality and want to add a gift of something for this child. They have very little, so they don't know what they can give. Amahl finally offers his crutch to the Magi to give to the child, and his leg is magically healed.

Admission: $40 per person. Visit here to purchase tickets online.
