Anastasia State Park offers an Environmental Cleanup session, where participants can learn the best practices of cleaning up trash along the shore to keep our beaches beautiful and safe for wildlife and humans alike. The event takes place from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 16, 2019.
Anastasia State Park staff will be joined by representatives from Sol Margin Fishing & Conservation Foundation to lead this informative cleanup. Guests will learn how and where to look for trash, as well as the correct way to dispose of it. Participants will maintain a log of the types and number of pieces of trash they find, all of which they can feed into a data collection app. Training for using the app will be done on-site.
Participants are asked to dress for the weather and bring light work gloves, water containers, and comfortable walking shoes. Don't forget sunscreen and bug spray.
After the cleanup, guests can meet at Anastasia Water Sports at 11:00 a.m. for a special presentation about microplastics. Lunch is available at the Island Beach Grill for those who'd like to stay in the park a little longer.
