Extraordinary Year of Mercy Jubilee Masses
(904) 262-1705The Diocese of St. Augustine will participate in the Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy called for by Pope Francis by offering two special Jubilee Masses this fall. Bishop Felipe Estévez will celebrate both masses.
Jubilee Years, also called Holy Years, feature special celebrations and pilgrimages and occur every 25 years. Extraordinary Jubilee Years are less frequent — the last one was called by St. John Paul II in 1983.
The first mass will be held at San Juan del Rio Catholic Church in St. Johns, FL, at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, September 27, 2016. This date is the feast day of St. Vincent de Paul, one of the Church's many patrons of those who perform works of charity and mercy. The many faithful and area parishes who minister to the sick and homebound and who work with such agencies as Catholic Charities and the Society of St. Vincent de Paul are encouraged to participate in this mass.
The second mass will be celebrated for those inspired by the Blessed Virgin Mary, at the Shrine of Our Lady of La Leche (pictured above) in St. Augustine on Sunday, October 9, 2016, at 2 p.m. Newly ordained Father David Keegan, parochial vicar at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Ponte Vedra Beach, will be the homilist at this mass.
