The Limelight Theatre kicks off its 2018-19 season with a production of Cabaret that will run from Friday, September 21, to Sunday, October 21, 2018. The opening show will be part of a special Season Kickoff Dinner and Show event on Thursday, September 20, 2018. Performances for the rest of the show's run will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays and at 2:00 p.m. and on Sundays throughout the show's run, with a special Terrific Tuesday show on September 25.

Set in 1931 Berlin, as the Nazis are rising to power, Cabaret is the story of a young American writer and his relationship with English cabaret performer Sally Bowles at a seedy nightclub called the Kit Kat Klub. Characters include the owner of a German boarding house, Fraulein Schneider, and her suitor, Herr Schultz, a Jewish fruit vendor, as well as the Master of Ceremonies at the Kit Kat Klub, a ghoulish figure who functions as a symbol of the changes happening in Germany.

These changes are also alluded to by several points in the plot, such as when Herr Schultz becomes a focus of Nazi hatred and when a chorus line on the cabaret's stage morphs into a goose step. Sally Bowles ultimately chooses to look away from the growing violence and hatred in Berlin, as so many of the German people do.

The 1967 Broadway musical Cabaret swept the 1967 Tony awards, winning Best Musical, Best Choreography, and Best Costume Design, among others. The play is based on stories by Christopher Isherwood.

The Limelight Theatre's production is directed by Beth Lambert, with Harolyn Sharpe as assistant director, Shelli Long as music director, and Missy Schmotzer directing the choreography. The cast includes Sadie Akers, Mike Bearman, Brian Matthews, Regina Torres, Leonard Alterman, Bob Mandzi, Elizabeth Bricknell, and Sascha Thorpe.

Admission: Regular admission tickets are $26. Tickets for the Season Kickoff Dinner and Show event  (September 20) are $60. The Terrific Tuesday show (September 25) is $15. Visit here to purchase tickets online.
