Come Back to the Five & Dime ...

The all-female fan club of James Dean meets on the 20th anniversary of the actor's death in this play that was also made into a movie.

The Limelight Theatre presents Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean, a 1976 play that was adapted for film by Robert Altman in 1982. The movie, starring Sandy Dennis, Cher, Karen Black, and Kathy Bates, won the Best Film Award at the Chicago International Film Festival.

The show will run from Thursday, June 1, to Saturday, June 24, 2018. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays and at 2:00 p.m. on Sundays throughout the show's run.

The play takes place in a Woolworth's five-and-dime store in a small town in Texas, where a local all-girl fan club for James Dean meets on the 20th anniversary of the actor's death. The six members of the club reminisce and share secrets about their lives in a series of flashbacks that date back to 1955.

The play was written and directed by Ed Graczyk for the Players' Theater in Columbus, Ohio, and moved on to Broadway in 1982.

The Limelight Theatre's production is directed by Matthew Whaley. The cast features Kristin Pidcock (Director of Education at Limelight Theatre), Beth Lambert (Executive Director of Limelight Theatre), Shelli Long, Jennifer Latka, Jennifer Farrow, Dianne Neighmond, Will Gooden, Heather Eggleston and Shannon Acevedo.

When: Performances are on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from June 1 to 24, 2018. Showtime is at 7:30 p.m. except on Sundays, when there is a matinee showing at 2:00 p.m. There are two additional showings: Preview Night is Thursday, May 31, and the Terrific Tuesday show is June 5.

Where: The Limelight Theatre is located at 11 Old Mission Ave. in the Uptown San Marco district. Free parking is available on the street and in the parking lot behind the theater.
