First Coast Opera: Take Me Out to the Ball Game
At the Waterworks
184 San Marco Ave.
St. Augustine, FL 32084

Romanza Festivale presents members of First Coast Opera performing music about baseball in "Take Me Out to the Ball Game," on Friday, May 8, 2026, beginning at noon. The event is held at the St. Augustine Waterworks.
First Coast Opera's director, Curtis Tucker, is joined by tenor Edward Brennan, soprano Haley Kirk, and pianist Michael Giuliani in this free concert highlighting iconic baseball songs, inlcuding, of course, "Take me Out to the Ball Game," and (incredibly) "If You Can't Make a Hit in a Ball Game, You Can't Make a Hit with Me."
Most of the songs were all written in the early part of the 20th century and became part of the baseball-mad culture of that era. Since the event is presented by First Coast Opera, one song, composed by William Schuman in the 1950s, is part of a one-act opera, The Mighty Casey. The opera is based on the poem, "Casey at the Bat" by Ernest Lawrence Thayer, and a dramatic reading of that poem is also part of the program.
