During the first week of Romanza Festivale, First Coast Opera will present two short operas, one a classic written by Arthur Sullivan and the other a sequel, written by Curtis Tucker, and book by Nelson Sheeley. These performances will take place on May 4, 2021 through May 8, 2021, at 7:30 p.m with two matinee performances at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 8, 2021 and Sunday, May 9, 2021.

The one-act opera, "Cox and Box" has often opened for performances of some of the shorter Gilbert and Sullivan operas. The plot involves two men, Cox and Box, who share the same apartment without being aware of it. One works at night and the other during the day and that works well for the landlord — until he's caught. This is Sullivan's first comedic opera, and hilarity ensues involving lost siblings, bacon, and a jilted fiancé.

That jilted fiancé, Penelope Ann, returns in the sequel which is set 10 years later. Written by Curtis Tucker, First Coast Opera Artistic Director, with the book written by Nelson Sheeley, this comic opera adds the landlord's wife and a wealthy widow into the mix.

The cast are Tyler Putnam, Curtis Tucker, Jason Whitfield, Sarah Nordin, and Catherine Ortega Spitzer.
