512-565-6130The UNF Shakespeare Program presents Othello on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at 7:30 p.m. at the Limelight Theatre, 11 Old Mission Avenue in St. Augustine.
The Shakespeare Program at UNF includes students from several majors, representing psychology, biology, film, engineering, communication, English, and other disciplines. Together with their advisor, Will Prewitt, they have created a multilingual adaptation of Shakespeare's classic tragedy.
This production debuted in Jacksonville on October 20 and is in St. Augustine for one night only. The play's characters include the Venetian Iago, Moorish general Othello, and Othello's secret wife, Desdemona. Building upon the play's themes of passion, race, and jealousy, the UNF students worked to create costumes, props, and phrases to represent the original cultures in Shakespeare's most cross-cultural play.
