Romanza Presents ...

At 7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 16, 2025, and 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 17, 2025, the Romanza Festivale presents a performance from A Classic Theatre, Shrink Wrap: A Social Satire by local playwright Amy Lauer Goldin. The play is presented as a staged reading at the Center for Spiritual Living.

The concept debuted as a sketch in 2019, and Amy then created a full-length play, which debuted in 2020 with eight sold-out shows, just before the COVID lockdown. Described as irreverent, fun, and thought-provoking, the play centers around a psychiatrist and her anxiety-ridden, wacky patients. The play holds up a fun-house mirror to people from all walks of life: politicians, members of the media, corporate bigwigs, and ordinary people from differing viewpoints. No one is spared as they attempt to find an answer to the question, "Has everyone gone crazy, or is it just me?"

A member of Ancient City Poets and active promoter for A Classic Theatre, Goldin first wrote a sketch called "Shrink Rap" for her summer variety show in 2019. She revived the sketch as a full-length play to provide a humorous look at today.

Shrink Wrap: A Social Satire is presented as a staged reading. Considered by some to be the "purest form of theatre," staged readings don't have sets, props, or light cues, and limited or no costumes. The actors perform using a script, and necessary stage directions are read to help the audience understand what is happening. The actors rehearse each program, focusing on the script and their delivery to bring the playwright's work to life for the audience. This play, written to be a succession of scenes of counseling sessions in a psychiatrist's office, is easily adapted as a staged reading.

Admission: $12.00 per person. Purchase tickets in advance here.

When: Friday, May 16, 2025, from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m., and Saturday, May 17, 2025, from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m.
